Natural Acid Reflux Nutritional Diet

In this special report, I outline the nutritional diet that you need to follow if you want to get rid of acid reflux or heartburn. You get all of the information on what foods feed your acid reflux and what foods help you stabilize your stomach and help you stop your acid reflux.

Don’t Suffer with Acid Reflux

You don’t have to keep suffering with acid reflux since this report will help you. Even if you have just started to have symptoms of acid reflux – burning sensation along your chest, pain near the top of your stomach, bloating, burping gas – the information in this report will help balance your stomach activities.

Over the Counter Remedies

Yes you can take over the counter remedies or even get a prescription for drugs. But remember, drugs don’t cure you, they simply cover over your symptoms and cause side effects that lead to other conditions or diseases. Once a doctor prescribes Prilosec or Prevacid, he will want you to take it indefinitely.

Yes, there are times that you need to take drugs, but you need to use them for a short time and then look for nutritional ways to bring your body back into balance. One other serious thought is that studies have found that using drugs for acid reflux enhances the chances of you getting esophageal cancer and I definitely don’t want you to get this far with your acid reflux.

How I Stay Fit: Author of The Skinny

Louis J. Aronne literally wrote the book on losing weight, so you would think that staying fit would come naturally to him. Think again!

The author of The Skinny: On Losing Weight Without Being Hungry says that keeping within a healthy body weight has been a life long process for him.

Q: As the author of a successful weight loss book, staying healthy and fit is pretty much a necessity if you want to set a good example. Does being a role model give you added incentive to eat well and exercise?

A: There’s nothing like it! I became interested in this area from having a history of diabetes, and moderate weight problems in my family. I got interested in it because of my own weight. I was trying to lose weight and I found it was difficult. I definitely have been able to do a lot better from my own research. My own work in this area has taught me a lot about it. I remember being a medical student, and feeling like I was losing my mind because I would be trying not to eat, but I’d wake up at night and be hungry and wonder, ‘What’s wrong with me? Why is this happening?’ There was nothing explaining this. I had to figure it out for myself. That’s basically what I’ve done. I think that’s why it’s No. 3 on the New York Times Bestseller List is because people are buying it and telling other people about it because it’s been helpful to them. I feel like it’s something that will help people to feel free. The culture that has evolved of blaming people, of tormenting them or prosecuting them for being obese is not right. I think you’ve got to understand it, do the research, figure out what’s going on but at the same time try to have a much more empathetic approach and manage it that way. That’s what’s going to do something for people. Find out more about Dr. Aronne’s research into the obesity epidemic and why we can’t lose weight.

Q: What are some of your favourite foods that you typically include on your shopping list?

A: Greek yogurt, that’s really good. The big bean sprouts like you get in Chow Mein. I really like that as a carb replacement. Lots of shrimp. Berries and almonds are my snack foods.

Q. What is your workout regime?

A. I’m very busy during the week so I ride a stationary bike while catching up on the news and then on the weekend I do more.

Q: What are some of your weaknesses when it comes to leading a healthy lifestyle?

A: There are plenty! It’s very, very tough. That’s why I’m so sympathetic to patients because I realize that it’s hard to do this. You’re looking for better than before, you’re not looking for perfect.

Q: You’ve worked with plenty of people over the years who are striving for a healthier lifestyle. If they didn’t read your book and you didn’t have an hour to spend with them, what would be the one piece of advice you would give them?

A: Have a protein breakfast! Instead of having juice and cereal for breakfast, have an egg-white omelet for breakfast. I’ve treated people on that advice alone. One guy who came in with someone else heard me explain this and then went home and started eating that breakfast and he lost 40 pounds just from a greater sense of fullness. He’s maintained it over a long period of time.

Rather than Cocoa Puffs, sweet starchy cereal and juice, going to a protein for a breakfast for some people is all it takes. It’s like taking an appetite suppressant for some people. They don’t believe me initially but when they see how well it works, they’re amazing how big an impact it can have on their eating.

A very well balanced breakfast would be an egg white omelet with vegetables, green and red peppers, onions, something very colourful and tasty. You can have any kind of seasoning, it doesn’t just have to be white. It’s surprisingly satisfying and will help you not be hungry for a long period of time.

Is White Tea Better Than Green Tea?

A question for your consideration: Are there different health benefits of drinking white tea versus drinking green tea?

Great question. Yes, there are differences between white tea and green tea. There are differences between all varieties of tea, and this seems like a good opportunity to talk about the differences in teas and their health benefits.

Black, green, white, and oolong teas are all derived from the leaves of the warm-weather evergreen tree Camellia sinensis. The more research done on tea the more profound results, no matter which variety you look at. All the teas from this phenomenal plant provide a wealth of health benefits.

Although these teas all come from the same plant, they all undergo different processing. The more processing the tea goes through, the darker the tea becomes. For this reason we can see that the common black tea undergoes the most processing. Black and oolong teas are partially dried, crushed and fermented, while green and white teas are simply steamed. White tea is subject to the least possible processing. The tea is derived from the young plant in early spring and, since they contain no chlorophyll, has silvery white leaves.

Herbal teas aren’t really teas at all, in the strict sense of the word, since they don’t come from the Camellia plant. Instead, herbal teas are infusions made with herbs, flowers, leaves, roots or seeds of any number of different plants. The actual term for the herbal tea is “tisane” although the common term “herbal tea” is generally understood to refer to something other than tea from the Camellia plant. This is not to say that certain herbal teas don’t have health benefits, but they tend not to provide the same health benefits as actual teas from the Camellia sinensis plant.

Regardless of the processing method, each tea from the Camellia sinensis plant contains polyphenols, the phytonutrient thought to be responsible for tea’s health benefits. Tea actually ranks higher than many fruits and vegetables on the ORAC scale, a measure of antioxidant potency. However, the less processing a tea undergoes, the more of these polyphenols it will have.

One particular type polyphenol that has been getting a lot of press as of late are catechins. White tea has actually been found to contain higher catechin levels than green tea due to the fact that it is fresher, less processed, and is from unbroken tea leaves. Catechins are the compounds responsible for lessening atherosclerotic plaques, reducing carcinogens, reducing risk of stroke, heart failure, cancer and diabetes and for protecting the skin from UV damage and tumor formation, benefits attributed to drinking green tea. White tea has also been found to have more anti-viral and anti-bacterial qualities than green tea.

Studies examining the levels of gallic acid (a compound that has antioxidant and tumor fighting properties) in brewed teas found levels to be higher in white tea than green tea. White tea is also said to have more of the amino acid theanine, with its relaxing and mood enhancing properties, than green or black tea, since it is made out of young leaves and buds. White tea is thought to contain less fluoride than green tea, and this is a good thing. Overexposure to fluoride can lead to a condition known as fluorosis, a mineralization disorder of the teeth characterized by ugly spotting on the tooth enamel.

Some people are concerned about drinking green or white teas due to the caffeine content, and this is a legitimate concern. The caffeine content of green and white teas are similar, although they both depend on factors such as the particular plant the tea is derived from, the size of the leaf, and the method used to steep the tea. Since green and white teas both contain the amino acid theanine which has a sedative effect that counteracts the stimulating effects of caffeine, most people find that they can drink green or white tea shortly before bed without suffering any detriment to their ability to sleep. Those particularly sensitive to caffeine may still find they are negatively influenced by green or white tea, however.

How Potent Are Your Antioxidants?

You’ve probably seen the claims on health food advertisements – “raw chocolate is 21 times more powerful an antioxidant than green tea”, “black raspberries are a better antioxidant than blueberries” or “noni fruit is an antioxidant powerhouse”. But just how are they measuring these food’s antioxidant levels?

The most popular means of determining the antioxidant capacities of different foods is a method known as ORAC. ORAC stands for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity and it was developed by scientists at the National Institute on Aging in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. Put simply, the test works by seeing how effective an antioxidant is at neutralizing the effects of a free radical generating substance. This is measured against the antioxidant trolox, a vitamin E analogue, which has been arbitrarily assigned as the standard. ORAC values given to these results are measured in trolox equivalents, or TEs.

The ORAC method is considered by most to be the preferred method for measuring a substance’s antioxidant capacity, but it does have its drawbacks. For one thing, only antioxidant activity against a particular type of free radical is being measured. Also, it has never actually been established what the relationship between ORAC values and health benefit really is; this is all still theoretical at this point. Like with any food component, antioxidant values will differ for a number of reasons like growing conditions, harvesting, food processing and preparation methods, so a number assigned to a given food may not be the actual antioxidant level of what arrives on your plate.

So take these numbers with a grain of salt. Yes, acai berries are excellent antioxidants and sure to contribute in a real way to your health. But I recommend you leave the comparisons for now. Is it really that important for you to get the best antioxidant? Why not just regularly eat some really good ones?

The Day in a Word: Brooding

Weight: 205 lb

Ailments of the Day: Fear

And we’re off.  Today officially marked the end of my transition into the juice fast.  I took the first few days of the week to ween myself off of processed carbs, meat, caffeine, and all the other things that usually keep my days going.  For breakfast over these past few days I primarily ate eggs, granola, and yogurt.  For lunch I tried to exclusively eat salads, with a granola bar as a snack in the afternoon.  For dinner, I had juice.

I just finished my last dinner juice a few minutes ago, and starting tomorrow morning I’ll be going for fourteen days of juice, juice, juice.  I’ve gone for seven days before, and it surprisingly wasn’t as hard as I thought it’d be.  I’m not sure how this attempt will go.  Especially considering the length.  My main fear is boredom, but luckily I have things to keep me busy.  But don’t worry, I won’t bore you with those details.

This blog will be dedicated to the physical and psychological effects of this juice fast.  My hope for it is twofold.  First, I hope that it can keep me motivated to finish.  Second, I hope it can serve as a reference for anyone who might consider juice fasting in the future.  Whatever may happen, let the great experiment begin!

Why Do Dogs Eat Poop, Worms?

There are a few speculations about this.

They like the taste of it, like the smell of it, they are just disgusting critters, boredom, or  it’s because they are lacking something in their diet.

It is believed that dogs may eat their poo to try to stop predictors tracing them back to their inhabitants. Something that may come back to natural instincts.

As discussing as this may seem, it doesn’t necessary mean its bad for your Dog. Occasionally your Dog could pickup worms from eating it, and then passing it onto the family. Needless to say, you should make sure your dog has a proper diet also.

What the Condition Called ?

Its called coprophagia. It maybe more common than you realize. In-fact it’s very common in younger dogs. Remember your puppy doesn’t realize its so wrong in our eyes. To them, it maybe just a yummy snack between meals.

How to break the habit

Your pup/dog as it becomes more social will tend to drop the habit. If not, some things you can try are.\

  • Pickup your dogs feces straight away. Don’t leave temptation lying around
  • Check your dog’s diet. Make sure he/she is getting the proper nutrition. It very possible that the only reason it turns to eating its own feces is because its lacking something. Nature takes over and tells the dog “hey eat it, your missing something”
  • Try removing all feces from the regular path of the dog.
  • DO NOT rub your dog’s nose into it. Rather give them a stern grunt or growl and point their face towards it. This will do the job. Also when your dog poops, and walks away from it, give it lots of praise! Dogs love it, and will soon catch on.
  • Occasionally the condition can be caused from boredom. So in turn, make sure you have plenty of entertainment for you dog. Eating poop for a past time could be quite depressing for both you and the dog.
  • Give your dog some pineapple. They probably just wont chow down on it, best to mix it in their food. This will make their poop stink to them, and they wont want to eat it.
  • If feeding them pineapple doesn’t do the trick. You can take a visit to your vet, they can supply some additives to put into your dogs food to do the same thing. Just a bit more harder on the wallet.
  • Try to put large objects in your dogs food, like balls bricks.. what ever.. just to slow them down eating. You see the faster they can eat the food, the faster it will come through the digestive system, which means tastier for them.
  • Once again, slow down the breaking down process in the belly. Feed more pellets rather than tin food. Processed tin food will rapidly go through their system for a tastier treat later.

I hope that these suggestion have answered some of your questions.

If you have experienced something else, or have a suggestion..Please feel free to leave a comment and share with us all.

Have a Happy Dog Day.

Vitamin C Good For Colds and Gout

Natural News is reporting on a study in the Archives of Internal Medicine that has found vitamin C may reduce the risk of gout in men. The study by researchers out of the Boston University School of Medicine looked at 47,000 male health care professionals over a 20-year period. Researchers found that men who took daily vitamin C supplements ranging from 1000mg to 1499mg were 34% less likely to have gout than men who took no supplement. Further, men who supplemented with 1500mg or greater of vitamin C had a 45% lower risk of contracting the disease versus those who took no supplement.

Gout is a form of arthritis that can be incredibly painful and debilitating. It is characterized by elevated levels of uric acid in the bloodstream, leading to the formation of monosodium urate crystals deposited in the tissues, cartilage and/or tendons, causing great pain. Gout is much more common in men, but women are also affected. Common risk factors include obesity, high alcohol consumption and an acidic, high-protein diet.

Lead researcher Hyon Choi is quoted as saying, “given the general safety profile associated with vitamin C intake, particularly in the generally consumed ranges as in the present study, vitamin C intake may provide a useful option in the prevention of gout.” Although it is not known by what mechanism vitamin C is able to prevent gout, researcher speculate that it may be attributable to the vitamin’s anti-inflammatory properties or its ability to reduce uric acid levels in the blood.

This study should not be used as a free license to eat and drink irresponsibly, however. According to Michael Snaith, member of the U.K. Gout Society “it would be unwise for people to think they can compensate for eating and drinking too much by taking vitamin C with their pint of beer.”

Have You Read Your Applescope?

Apples are so delicious, but there are so many varieties that I get confused trying to figure out which one I should be eating. I wish there were some way to know the type of apple I should be eating based on the esoteric details of my personality type.

At last – my prayers have been answered! The Ontario Apple Growers have come up with a helpful way to aid Ontarians in choosing what type of local apple they should be eating. Teaming up with an astrologer and a nutritionist, they’ve develop Applescopes – astrological readings that tell you what apple best suits your astrological sign.

Are you a Taurus? The Ontario Idared is the apple for you. A crabby Cancer? Ontario Jonagold should be your fruit of choice. Scorpio? Go for a Red Delicious.

Aside from matching apples to specific personality types, the applescopes actually give some solid nutritional advice while encouraging people to choose local fruit. They’re a fun mix of new age mysticism and down to earth advice on diet and nutrition. Take a few minutes to check the apple that matches your sun sign at the Applescope page.

Testing Yourself Regularly Essential For Healthy Living

Trying to follow a healthy lifestyle is all well and good, but how do you know if what you’re doing is really working?

That’s the one thing Bryce Wylde, author of The Antioxidant Prescription: How to Use the Power of Antioxidants to Prevent Disease and Stay Healthy for Life, wants people to take away from reading his book. “Even if they are well read and they know a lot of these things, what nobody is really doing is validating their actions,” he says. “What I’d like people to take away is get empowered. Start taking some subjective assessments and analysis of yourself. ”

Wylde suggests having your urine tested, checking your PH and Vitamin C levels and even getting an adrenal stress test among others.

“Do something about it, then re-test yourself. Over time, re-test yourself. Make sure you’re within the parameters of being healthy. It’s maintaining self-accountability. Some people will go that’s true, there’s some great studies, then that’s it, they lose it. If they were looking forward to the re-test, they aren’t going to stop. It gets them excited about it,” he says.

“You don’t have to feel bad to feel even better. It’s not enough motivation to actually do something. I test myself regularly all the time. You can get so specific these days. You can test your genetic code for it’s pre-disposition to certain outcomes. Any doctor can call for assessments to analyse their results or you can go to GDX.net.”

Bruce Wylde is a homeopathic doctor and nutritionist. You can get more information about testing yourself by going to his web site: http://www.drwylde.com/
